Module Overview
Plant Safety introduces trainees to common safety considerations when working in a manufacturing plant environment. Trainees are introduced to the personal protective equipment, common tools, and safety situations they may encounter in the workplace. This module is designed for trainees with little to no experience in a manufacturing environment.

Course Objective:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Demonstrate accident and injury prevention awareness including identification of fire hazards, safe lifting, basic lockout tagout, and workplace hazards.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- identify and inspect the following common hand tools: Wrench, Sheet metal shears, torque wrench, phillips screwdriver, Channel locks, and a utility knife.
- Use the following common hand tools: Wrench, Sheet metal shears, torque wrench, phillips screwdriver, Channel locks, and a utility knife.
- situational awareness in a warehouse environment.
- Demonstrate safe receiving and storage techniques.
- Demonstrate safe manual lifting techniques.
- Demonstrate safe lifting and handling of metal/glass sheets and cylindrical objects.
- Demonstrate basic safety when working with and around hoists and cranes.
- Demonstrate awareness of energy related hazards and techniques.
- Demonstrate a lockout tagout procedure.
- Demonstrate awareness of robotic work cell safety.
- Inspect, safely setup, and properly use an a-frame stepladder
- Inspect, safely setup, and properly use a straight ladder.
- Demonstrate knowledge of fire extinguisher types and safe fire extinguisher operation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Safety Data Sheets to identify hazards involved with using a chemical, related first aid measures and personal protective equipment when working with chemicals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of bloodborne pathogens, the appropriate personal protective equipment and procedures necessary to protect themselves.
- Inspect and safely use pneumatic wrenches and screwdrivers.
- Inspect and safely use an electric drill.
- Inspect and safely use a circular saw.
- Inspect and safely use a miter saw.
- Inspect and safely use a pedestal grinder.
- Inspect and safely use a handheld grinder.

- Understand the different types of burn risks when near a welding arc, and demonstrate knowledge of personal protective equipment and safety measures needed to protect them.
