Description
This course provides an introduction to the Omron family of PLC’s. Basic terminology, memory structures, and PLC operations are defined. I/O addressing is discussed as well as numbering systems including binary, BCD, hexadecimal, and decimal. The class also provides basic programming skills for Omron PLC’s. The course will cover wiring to and from the PLC, memory area definitions, and mapping. I/O allocations, control strategies, and an introduction to programming. Computers will be provided to ensure hands-on experience creating PLC I/O tables, PLC programming, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Prerequisite:
Basic computer skills are required. Electrical safety knowledge is preferred.

Course Objective:
Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to:
- Read and convert binary, decimal, hexadecimal, and BCD number formats.
- Diagram a basic PLC system including hardware, CPU, inputs, outputs, and power supply.
- Be able to determine the proper address of inputs and outputs to an Omron PLC.
- Use the PLC programming software to communicate to the PLC and download and save programs and I/O tables.
- Create an I/O table in the PLC and explain its importance in adding hardware.
- Observe and identify basic inputs and outputs in ladder diagrams and relate those software indicators to the real world I/O devices.
- Construct, test, and run PLC programs.
- Monitor PLC status online.
- Utilize basic troubleshooting tools online.
